What are full spectrum led grow lights?

What is the full spectrum of light and why does this matter?

A light that covers all wavelengths that are useful for living organisms on earth (including animals, plants, etc.) is called the full spectrum of light. Sun is the only natural source of the full spectrum of light.

Consuming less electrical power means releasing less heat energy. every electrical appliance releases some amount of heat energy and LEDs also release heat but in limited quantity. Most of the energy they consumed gets transferred into light energy a negligible amount of it converts into heat.

1 watt of consumption = 3.41 BTU/hour (British Thermal Unit Per Hour).

More watts mean more heat energy

If you have a 200-watt fixture it releases 682 BTU/h of heat and a 900-watt fixture release 3069 BTU/h. but this not the case with every grow light. The type of light and efficiency changes the concept of BTU/h.

A 1200 watt HID fixture exude more heat than the 1200 watt LED grow lamp. LEDs produce ambient heat that is heat produced by the panel itself, not by the LEDs.  High heat can damage your plant permanently or in most cases it slows down the growth. So, heat management is a crucial part when you decide to grow indoors.

The problem with the HID fixtures is they produce a high amount of heat energy which can damage the plant easily. In the case of LEDs, the manufacturers do not include a diode with wavelengths past 730nm. This ensures that the diodes do not emit heat energy towards your plants.

Do a test yourself to know it better. Place your hand under the running LED light and HID grow bulbs you will feel the difference by yourself. More heat will feel under the HID which is very harmful to plant growth and a slight warm feeling under LED which is required for active photosynthesis.

TYPES OF LED GROW LIGHTS

LED Grow lights for indoor plants come in many different shapes and sizes. Today many big organizations are entering in the LED grow light industry. LED technology is changing rapidly and it is challenging to categorizing them. Let’s start with the present LED types and sizes.

DIP LED

It stands for dual in-line package light-emitting diode. DIPs are old diodes that you can see in old electronics. There are not very powerful because they do not come with any cooling system like cooling fans etc. These LEDs are not so efficient and can no longer be in use for making Grow lights. SMD LEDs

These are called Surface Mounted Device grow lights. Each LED is well soldered onto a single motherboard to form a powerful grow light. Also, they contain their own cooling system mostly just Small fans which keep internal components under normal temperature. Do not produce excess heat. So, no heat management system is required for them.

LED PANEL LIGHTS or GROW PANELS

The rectangular grow lights that you normally see in indoor gardens or in advertisements are LED grow light panels. They mostly contain the same shape in all parts of the world. Grow lights contain their in-built cooling system (heat sink and cooling fans). Multiple diodes are used to manufacture every single light. more powerful than UFO grow lights and highly efficient. It consumes less energy than HID light bulbs.

Grow panels are most widely used in indoor growing all over the Globe.

LED strip Light

These are strip grow lights and most used in those areas where growers use shelves to grow plants. LED strip grow lights are easily attached to the underside of the above shelf. This way these lights cover a large area. SMD types

LED GROW LIGHTS VS SUNLIGHT

The first-ever grown plant on this planet uses sunlight to grow claimed by the scientists (100% true). With the advancement in technology human start studying the growing cycle of plants. In the research, they see that plants absorb sunlight and use it to make their food they give this process a name called photosynthesis.

Now photosynthesis processes in which plants used certain wavelengths of light to make their food. When the scientists see this, they do an experiment in which they take a plant and put it under the light wavelengths which are emitted by grow lights. the results were surprising, the plants show similar growth as they show outside in the sunlight.

But this does not mean the Artificial light is better than sunlight, not at all. Farmers are still growing in open filed under the sunlight to full fill the demand of the entire world. Studies have shown that an excess of yellow light put your plants under stress. When we grow plants in sunlight, they continuously receive yellow light with other light colors.  But this does not mean sunlight putting our plants under stress.

We all agree on one thing that it is impossible to grow every type of fruit, vegetable, or herb in a single country. Every country has its own environment and according to which it is not possible to grow plants that like to grow in opposite weather.

For example, the plants that are grown in Europe cannot be grown in Asian countries due to the difference in weather conditions. so, nature balances everything.

Plants that are grown in warm countries need more yellow light are compared to the plant that we grow in the UK. This clearly shows that the yellow spectrum of sunlight does not put stress on growing plants.
